The First Nations Forestry Council (FNFC) is a non-profit society that seeks to support and advocate for the role BC First Nations should play as the rightful owners of forest land and resources including access to an equitable share of the benefits derived from forestry activities within their traditional territories. The Stewardship Program Manager is responsible for ensuring effective communications with First Nations and FNFC partners as well as supporting FNFC’s initiatives associated with the management and stewardship of BC forest lands and resources. The successful candidate should have a strong understanding of forest and land use policies and practices in BC; strong relationship-building and organizational skills as well as excellent written and communication skills. Experience working with First Nations on the development of land use plans is considered an asset.
The ideal candidate will hold a University Degree, diploma or certificate in forestry, natural resource management, community planning or land use planning, with a minimum of 5 years of related experience or equivalent combination of post-secondary education and job experience. An equivalent combination of experience will be considered. Experience working with First Nations is an asset as well as knowledge and understanding of First Nations peoples political, governance, socio economic and community issues, and aboriginal ancestry. A willingness to travel throughout BC is required.
